The local history museum in Worms-Weinsheim was established in 1989 by the local historian Edmund Heuser. It is located in the old school house. The area in and around Weinsheim was inhabited from very early times (first documented in 804AD). The exhibited finds in the museum span from the Stone Age, the Celts and the Romans, to the Middle Ages right up to the modern era.
During years of research, Edmund Heuser collected the historical events and changes in Weinsheim together and preserved them in the local history museum. The result of his efforts is an almost complete documentation of the local history of Weinsheim.
In addition to this, there are a number of exhibits in the museum - from prehistoric times up to the modern era, which all come from Worms-Weinsheim. Deposits from old oysters, sharks’ teeth and mussels (approx. 25 million years old), woolly mammoth bones, remains of Bison and wild horses (approx. 50 000 years old), a sarcophagus (approx. 400AD), a boundary stone (16th Century), old pictures, documents, newspapers and maps of the local community and parish are all on display.
A number of tools from various professions (builder, baker, butcher, cooper, coach builder etc), household objects (around 1900), a school room, extinguishers from the fire department and objects from the first and second World Wars are as much a witness to the everyday life of the people of Weinsheim as the complete workshops of a shoe maker, carpenter, tailor and blacksmith.
