Group arrangement G -1: The Staufer - a Tribute to Worms

Throughout the Rhein-Neckar metropolitan area, 2010 will be the commemorative year of the Staufer Dynasty. In co-operation with Reiss-Engelhorn-Museen in Mannheim, the Tourist Information of Worms offers an exceptional group arrangement, complementing the great international exhibition ‘The Staufer Dynasty and Italy—Three European Regions of Innovation’, organised by the German states of Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse.

“May you henceforth shine in your glory and honour, o Worms, for you have proven zealous, prudent and loyal.” These words, spoken by emperor Frederick and inscribed in a plaque above the north portal of Worms Cathedral, reflect the loyalty the citizens would pledge to their emperor. As a reward, Frederick I, also known as Barbarossa (‘Redbeard’), remitted their payment of the imperial poll tax. This strong loyalty may have influenced the decision to choose Worms as the stage of the sumptuous wedding between Barbarossa’s grandson Frederick II and Isabella of England.

Today, the city’s mediaeval splendour can be experienced in every turn. The guided tour ‘Worms—City of the Staufer Kings’ lends impressive insight in everyday life of the Staufer period. The Museum of the City of Worms in St Andrew’s Collegiate Church shows a wide range of exhibits from pre-Christian and Roman times, but also a presentation of the city’s history from the Middle Ages to modern times.

Services include:

• 1 double-room overnight stay in a hotel category of your choice
• guided tour: ‘Worms—City of the Staufer Kings’—coronation, wedding, tribunal
• admission ticket for the Museum of the City of Worms in St Andrew’s Collegiate Church
• copy of ‘Worms am Rhein’ (tourist guide in German language; one copy per room)
