Insight into History
The Rashi house lies next to the synagogue and is named after the eminent Jewish Talmud scholar, Rashi (11th century). The building, which lies behind the synagogue is assumed to be the site of the medieval Talmud school. Since late medieval times it has been used as a dance and wedding house and then as a hospital.
Since 1982, it has been home to the Jewish museum and the municipal archives. It gives us an insight into the history, religion and daily life of Jews in Worms between the Middle Ages and the 20th century. Using models, documents, plans, cult objects and photographs, it conveys an impression of the long and rich history of Jewish life in Worms.
